Q:

Has anyone out there been diagnosed with attention deficit Disorder for the first time as an adult?

A: many people go thru a good part of their adult lives without being diagnosed, count your blessings. I am 41 years of age and was diagnosed at 37. I have ADHD and an LD. I have had trouble keeping a steady employment record since 2001 because I feel trapped in full time permanent jobs. My creativity is stifled. I began working with www.opportunityworks.ca in Dec 2002 to become self-employed. In secular work, I last about 3 months and then get bored or due to poor inter-personal skills I am fired. I waited a year after my diagnosis (got two opinions) and then began meds. I started out on 5 mg Dexedrine (short acting) - got dizzy on those and split them so I was taking 2.5 mgs to start. I gradually moved on to 10 mg Dexedrine spansules. I am now on 30mg Adderall XR. They work wonders on me. I...

Q:

Looking for advice and experiences after being diagnosed with ADD (attention deficit Disorder).

A: I''m glad you mentioned Adderall, because medication CHANGED MY LIFE. Seriously. There is nothing else I have done or have tried that has helped as much. I had the exact same reaction you did -- I was mad that it had taken so long for it to finally get acknowledged and treated, and full of regret thinking about the ways my life could have turned out differently. That''s a waste of time. Focus on what you can do now -- you''re still in college, so there''s still time to get your shit together academically. Things you should look into at your school--see if they offer extra time for exams for people diagnosed with ADD, or have resources to help with study skills. I have piss poor executive functioning (as most everyone with ADD does) and I met with someone for awhile to help me with planning...

Q:

attention deficit disorder Meds

A: Anxiety is a common side effect for Focalin. If it really bothersome, talk to your doctor about maybe adjusting the dosage or possibly trying another ADHD medication. Dexmethylphenidate (sold commercially by Novartis as Focalin, also available generically in the US exclusively from Teva) is a pharmaceutical drug used to treat attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a psychostimulant dopamine reuptake inhibitor that affects the central nervous system. Dexmethylphenidate has a 4-6 hour duration of effect (a long-acting formulation, Focalin XR, which spans 12 hours is also available), and has been demonstrated to be as, if not more effective than methylphenidate at reducing the symptoms of childhood ADHD,[1] as well as ADHD in...

Q:

Can You Out Grow attention deficit Disorder?

A: Most children can outgrow this disorder. My son had the same thing ,he basically had control of it by the 4th grade. As he became an adult most of the time you would never know he had that as a child. There is a episode ever blue moon when he gets real hyper but not often. I wouldn''t worry about it right now. They do have medication to help children deal better. I wouldn''t recommend Ritalin though. I have seen to many kids with side affects from this. If your child is real hyper at this point or daydreams alot or doesn''t pay attention because he is somewhere else in his thought, you need to consider medication for him from a Psychiatrist....
